WVU's Dr. Laura Doesn't Fiddle Around

tras; the Northwest Chamber Orchestra; the Heartland Philharmonic Orchestra; the Omaha Area Youth Orchestra; the University of Michigan Symphony; and the WVU Symphony.  In addition to her work as a soloist, she was a section violinist with the San Francisco Opera Orchestra and a substitute violinist in the Omaha and San Francisco Symphonies.  She has filled her summers with performances at noted music festivals, including the Eastern Music Festival, the Brevard Music Festival, the Hot Springs Music Festival, Great Music West, and the Carmel Bach Festival.

One of her foremost accomplishments while at WVU was the release of a CD, titled
BOLDLY EXPRESSIVE! Music by Women (Albany Records, Albany, NY).  The CD features the Kobayashi-Gray Duo, with Dr. Kobayashi and her friend and accompanist Susan Keith Gray performing works by six women composers of the 19th and 20th centuries.  Four of the works are premiere recordings.   The disc is a culmination of ten years of joint research and performances by the Duo, who met at the University of Michigan.  Dr. Gray is currently on the music faculty at the University of South Dakota.  The CD includes a recording of a published edition of Marie Grandval's Grande Sonate, op.8 pour Piano et Violin which Dr. Kobayashi co-edited.  (The author of this article has heard this CD and recommends it highly to all music lovers!)

Given Dr. Kobayashi's strong work ethic, she will continue to work tirelessly to expand her reputation as a performer and pedagogue and to promote the Division wherever she goes.  Clearly, WVU's Dr. Laura is not one to fiddle around!
