Thomas Cavendish
A Charmed and Charming Life

When young Thomas Cavendish was playing trumpet in the South Charleston High School band, did he have visions of singing in operas--or directing them?  The CCA knew someone like him would be coming along and was expanding just as Tom was awakening to new facets of his obvious musical talent.  As a trumpet major, he performed in the WVU Band under Lawrence Intravaia and in the Orchestra under the direction of Kenneth Wood.
As Tom moved on toward graduation, a new professor, Joseph Golz, arrived at the CCA and set up a new vocal program.  After studying voice privately with Ruth Drucker, Tom had developed his vocal skills sufficiently to sing in the premier University Choir and take on leading roles in productions of "Pajama Game", "South Pacific", "Amahl and the Night Visitors" and "Mikado".
After graduation, Tom was appointed choral director at Morgantown High School, but the inner drive for further education meant

been incorporating a mixture of international, national and area professional musicians along with community and school players to stage opera, light opera and popular musicals in the Broward area.  In addition he has conducted abroad as well as throughout the United States.  Tom lists twenty operas from "Aida" to "Die Zauberflote"; ten Viennese and American Operettas from "Beggar Student" to "Vagabond King"; nine musicals from "Camelot" to "Sound of Music"; four Gilbert and Sullivans, and ten oratorios with orchestra from "Carmina Burana" to "Polovetsian Dances" among his conducting repertoire.  He received rave reviews from Constanta, Romania where he conducted "Aida" in the International Verdi Festival and from the Czech Republic where he conducted "La Traviata".
Thomas Cavendish is the general manager and artistic director of the Gold Coast Opera in Fort Lauder
