Text Box: At the November 2003 meeting of the MAA Executive Committee, much of the discussion centered around what kinds of special services and alumni activities the organization can support to engage our alumni base.  Two years ago the Text Box: which are being held for the first time.  We hope this newsletter reaches you by the time these events occur and will continue to work to increase the lead time between notification in Con Moto and an event date.  Here we go!

Text Box: Music Gala to feature the “March King”
Text Box: You can bet there will be plenty of feet tapping during the 2003 Division of Music Gala.  This year’s annual benefit concert, which supports the greatest needs in the Division, will feature the WVU Wind Symphony, under the direction of Don Wilcox, performing a Text Box: genuine Sousa Band Concert.  Mark you calendars for Thursday, April 20th for an evening of great marches and fun for the entire family.  The concert will be held in the recently reopened Metropolitan Theatre on High Street in downtown Morgantown.  Once the home for stage shows and

Committee focused all of its efforts on increasing communication.  Now we have two issues of Con Moto, the website (www.wvumaa.org), and periodic email and snail-mail news updates for all MAA members. 

Now that we have your attention, how do we keep you interested and reach out to as many alumni as possible?  Granted, we will not be able to provide an alumni event for everyone living around the nation (WVU’s geographic alumni chapters fulfill that need for many of you), but we can select areas where there is a concentration of alumni and expand from there.

This spring, the MAA will be offering a total of three alumni activities, two of

1. MAA Guest Lecture and Reception during the WVU Honor Band Weekend—For the first time the MAA will be hosting a lecture by Don Wilcox, Director of Bands at WVU during the annual Honor Band weekend.  The lecture will take place

1. on Friday, February 20 at 2:30pm in the newly renovated Bloch Learning and Performance Hall (formerly room 200A).  Following the lecture a complimentary reception will be held for all participants.

2. WVMEA Conference Reception - For the sixth year the MAA and the Division of Music is teaming up to host a reception during the state music educators conference, this
