Elizabeth Ann Henderson (Libby) (B.M. '55) passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2008, at the Wyoming Medical Center after a short illness.
Libby was born on Dec. 3, 1932, in Sistersville. She was active in church and music activities and she earned a bachelor’s degree in music from West Virginia University (WVU) in 1955, after which she taught vocal music at Washington Junior High in Parkersburg, just 45 miles away. For decades, she traveled home on the weekends to enjoy time with her parents and to serve as organist and/or choir director for the Sistersville Methodist Church for 20 years.
From 1966 to 1972, she was the music consultant for the PACE Education Center in Parkersburg. From 1972 to 1994, she was the music supervisor for Wood County Schools. She was an active member and leader of local, county and state music education boards. She helped write and implement curricula and gave workshops for the State Department in 10 counties.
Libby served on the Boards of the Parkersburg Fine Arts Council and Community Concerts. She was the Board of Education Representative to ArtsBridge and a member of the Special Events Committee of the Blennerhassett Historical Commission. She loved volunteering as a docent on Blennerhassett Island and ushering at the Smoot Theatre. She held certification as Director of Music in the W.Va. Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. Her legacy is her love of music and the quest for excellence. **Ed. (2/2008)
